Fundraising Priorities
One of the most urgent needs at the School of Social Work is rebuilding and strengthening the Master of Social Work (MSW) cohort. While Tulane offers a nationally respected education and a direct path to employment for many graduates, the cost remains a barrier for too many.
Students often need specialized training before they begin their hands-on work in the community. These new pre-placement modules would give them the knowledge and confidence they need to step into complex environments. Developed in partnership with Tulane faculty and expert practitioners, the modules would focus on critical areas such as addiction, trauma and geriatric care.
Investment in interdisciplinary research would expand access to state-of-the-art research tools, support large-scale studies and open new avenues for collaboration with partners across medicine, public health, psychology and beyond. With the right resources, the school can lead in producing evidence-based solutions that not only inform practice but transform it.

The Impact of Giving
Couple makes $1 million bequest to strengthen their Tulane School of Social Work scholarship
A Tulane University alumna who has dedicated her life to counseling patients with mental illness is now giving back further to the university with a $1 million bequest to the School of Social Work.
The estate gift from social worker Cheryl A. Verlander (NC ’70, SW ’75) and her husband, Charles “Chuck” N. Bracht, will bolster the Verlander-Bracht Scholarship Endowed Fund, which they created in 2008 to support students, especially Tulane alumni, who are pursuing master’s degrees at the School of Social Work.
